Kalkaji Woman Two Sons Found Dead at Delhi Home, Suicide Due to Financial Stress Suspected

Incident Overview
A tragic incident has come to light from Delhi’s Kalkaji area, where a 52-year-old woman and her two sons were found dead inside their rented residence on Friday. Police suspect the deaths to be a case of suicide, possibly linked to prolonged financial stress and mental health issues.
The victims included the woman and her sons aged 32 and 27. A handwritten note recovered from the house indicated that the family had been battling depression for a considerable period.
The Kalkaji woman two sons found dead case has shocked local residents and raised serious concerns about financial distress and mental health support in urban households.
How the Incident Came to Light
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, the incident came to light around 2:45 pm when a bailiff, accompanied by local police, arrived at the house to execute a court-ordered possession.
The landlord had approached the court after the family failed to pay a monthly rent of ₹25,000 for several months. When repeated knocks went unanswered, officials used a duplicate key to enter the two-storey house.
Inside one of the rooms, police found the woman and her two sons. The premises were immediately sealed and senior officers were informed.
Financial Stress and Depression संकेत
Investigators recovered a one-and-a-half-page handwritten note from the spot. While the full contents have not been made public, officers said the note pointed to prolonged depression and emotional distress.
According to officials familiar with the investigation:
- The family was allegedly unemployed
- They were under severe financial pressure
- Mental health struggles reportedly affected their ability to work
An officer said the younger son was preparing for the UPSC examination. Police said these factors may have contributed to the family’s distress.
Police Investigation and Legal Process
The bodies were shifted to the AIIMS mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said a detailed inquiry is underway to determine the sequence of events.
As part of the probe, officers are:
- Examining the suicide note
- Checking digital devices and documents
- Reviewing financial and legal records
- Contacting extended family members
Police said conclusions will be drawn only after all evidence is analysed.
Family Background and Neighbours’ Accounts
Neighbours told police that the family had largely kept to themselves in recent months. They said there was minimal interaction with others in the locality.

According to investigators, the family rented the house in December 2023. At that time, the woman’s husband was alive and working as a property dealer.
He allegedly had outstanding loans from acquaintances and passed away in 2024, leaving the family burdened with debt.
An officer also said preliminary findings suggest the two brothers may have attempted suicide around two months ago, though this aspect is still being verified.
Mental Health Concerns and Wider Context
The Kalkaji woman two sons found dead case has once again highlighted the growing mental health crisis linked to financial stress, unemployment, and social isolation.
Mental health experts say prolonged economic hardship can significantly worsen depression, especially when individuals lack access to counselling and support systems.
Authorities and experts continue to stress the importance of:
- Early mental health intervention
- Accessible counselling services
- Community awareness and outreach
What Happens Next
Police said the investigation is ongoing and further clarity is expected once forensic reports and digital analysis are completed.
Officials are also trying to reconstruct the family’s recent movements and interactions to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.
As the probe continues, the tragedy serves as a reminder of the urgent need for stronger mental health and financial support systems for vulnerable families.
