How the Incident Came to Light
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari, the incident came to light around 2:45 pm when a bailiff, accompanied by local police, arrived at the house to execute a court-ordered possession.
The landlord had approached the court after the family failed to pay a monthly rent of ₹25,000 for several months. When repeated knocks went unanswered, officials used a duplicate key to enter the two-storey house.

Inside one of the rooms, police found the woman and her two sons. The premises were immediately sealed and senior officers were informed.
Financial Stress and Depression संकेत
Investigators recovered a one-and-a-half-page handwritten note from the spot. While the full contents have not been made public, officers said the note pointed to prolonged depression and emotional distress.
According to officials familiar with the investigation:

An officer said the younger son was preparing for the UPSC examination. Police said these factors may have contributed to the family’s distress.

According to investigators, the family rented the house in December 2023. At that time, the woman’s husband was alive and working as a property dealer.
He allegedly had outstanding loans from acquaintances and passed away in 2024, leaving the family burdened with debt.
An officer also said preliminary findings suggest the two brothers may have attempted suicide around two months ago, though this aspect is still being verified.
